Precautions & Side Effects

Doctor's Advice

It is essential to consult a doctor before taking any kind of medication or drug. In case of allergies or any other disorder, it is wise to consult a doctor. During pregnancy or on the lactating stage of motherhood, a doctor’s advice is necessary.

Following the directions:

Go through the instructions and directions on the label of the medication before starting the course of the drug. There might be some important instructions you might not want to miss.


Take the medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Usually, it is prescribed to take the medication once a day either with food or without food.

Missed Dose:

It happens at times that we miss a dose. In such situations do not panic. You can take the dose immediately after you realizing the missed dose. Skip the dose if the next dose is near. Never ever take a double dose.

Side effects:

Generic Harvoni has few common side effects. The side effects are fatigue, insomnia, headache, nausea, and anemia. If there are any other side effects other than the mentioned ones, visit your doctor regarding the same.

Allergic to the antiviral agents:

Make sure if you are or not allergic to the antiviral agents in Generic Harvoni. The antiviral agents are Sofosbuvir and Ledipasvir. If you are allergic to them let your doctor know about it and do not proceed to take the Generic Harvoni.


Generic Harvoni is not recommended for all the genotypes of Hepatitis C Virus. Only genotypes 1 and 4 in adults are curable by Generic Harvoni.

Other Medicines:

Tell your doctor if you are on the course of any other medicine before starting the Generic Harvoni course. Following are the medicines you should tell your doctor about (if you are taking them):

  • amiodarone
  • Atripla
  • digoxin
  • Other drugs to treat hepatitis C, such as simeprevir (Olysio) or sofosbuvir (Sovaldi)
  • ritonavir (Norvir) when used with tipranavir (Aptivus)
  • Rosuvastatin (Crestor)
  • St. John’s wort
  • Stribild (elvitegravir, cobicistat, emtricitabine, tenofovir)
  • Tenofovir when used in combination with atazanavir, darunavir, lopinavir, or ritonavir
  • Seizure medicine – carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin
  • Stomach acid reducers – cimetidine (Tagamet), esomeprazole (Nexium), famotidine (Pepcid) lansoprazole (Prevacid), nizatidine (Axid), omeprazole (Prilosec), pantoprazole (Protonix), ranitidine (Zantac), and others
  • o tuberculosis medicine – rifabutin, rifampin, rifapentine.
  • Antacid:

    It is highly advised not to consume any kind of antacid 4-5 hours before or 4-5 hours after consuming Generic Harvoni. An antacid that includes aluminum and magnesium are a big threat if consumed with Generic Harvoni. Acid Gone, Di-Gel, Gaviscon, Gelusil, Genaton, Maalox, Maldroxal, Milk of Magnesia, etc. are some of the antacids that have aluminum and magnesium in them.
